Best Tips For Accelerating Your Internet Speed

Best Tips For Accelerating Your Internet Speed

  • Use an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi when possible. Ethernet cables provide faster and more reliable connectivity compared to wireless networks. Connect your computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable.
  • Restart your router and devices. Simply turning your router and devices off and back on can help clear out memory leaks and connectivity issues. Unplug your router and modem for 30 seconds before plugging back in. Also restart your computer and other connected devices.
  • Update your router firmware and drivers. Outdated software often results in slower speeds. Check the manufacturer’s website for the latest router firmware update and install it. Also update network drivers on your computer.
  • Change your Wi-Fi channel. If you must use Wi-Fi, interference from nearby networks on the same channel can slow down your connection. Use a Wi-Fi analyzer app to determine the least congested channel and switch your router to broadcast on that channel.
  • Position your router properly. Place your router in a central area away from objects that could block the signal. Keep it elevated in a clear spot rather than on the floor. Also make sure the router antennas are upright and unobstructed.
  • Check your router QoS settings. Quality of Service settings allow you to prioritize certain devices and types of traffic on your network. Make sure QoS is enabled and set up appropriately.
  • Limit bandwidth-hogging activities. Streaming, gaming, downloading large files etc. can slow down your overall internet speeds. Limit these activities if you need optimal internet speeds for other tasks.
  • Contact your ISP about package upgrades. If your internet is still slow after trying the above tips, contact your internet provider about upgrading your service package to a plan with higher bandwidth.
